CGVirusscan Retired

Due to McAfee not releasing DAT Files for Virex Egines older than 4400 anymore, and engine 4400 and up having lost the DeMime command line option, i have decided to not invest any more time in keeping CGVirusscan alive.
Everyone on the CGVirusscan list agreed.

Since there is ClamAV, which is a perfect Anti Virus Solution, this shouldn't leave anyone on a Mac without a decent AV Solution.

It's been a fun ride but I guess it's time to say good bye ;-)
After all cgvirusscan wasn't my baby anyway and it was almost dead already
before I reanimated it...

So: CGVirusscan is dead -- long live ClamAV.

The easiest way to get going with ClamAV and CommuniGate Pro seems to be MPP free. I am using cgpav which might not be as easy to install, but works dandy.
Enjoy!

Warning: Current Dat files no longer working

NAI decided, that recent dat files will no longer work with virex engine older than 4400 (as it seems). Problem is, 4400 lost the --mime option which is needed for cgvirusscan. So currently, this puts cgvirusscan out of order. We're working on a solution.

Warning: Virex 7.5 will break cgvirusscan

Do not install Virex 7.5 or download Engine updates via Versiontracker.com or such as this would effectively break cgvirusscan.
In Virex 7.5 the --mime command line option of vscanx (or uvscan) has been removed (for whatever reason). This option is needed to unpack mime encoded messages and attachments. Without --mime basicaly all virus infected mails will slip through unitentified.

CGVirusscan minor Update

The CGVirusscan package has been updated. Due to the change to Perl 5.8 in Mac OS X 10.3, the updatevirex.pl script didn't work anymore.

The updated package contains a fixed version of updatevirex.pl which should run fine on Mac OS X 10.3 and lower.

CGVirusscan 1.1

Since it seems John Ray isn't updating CGvirusscan anymore, i finally took the time to do some needed updates to it myself. I do hope that is OK with him.

So here it is.

Changes:
  • Got rid of munpack as it often crashes.
  • Updated it to support CommuniGate's EXT Filter API 2, so you can decide if poisoned mails get bounced or silently discarded.
  • Tweaked a few other bits and pieces and cleaned forking.
  • Added a simple installation script.

THIS Release does NOT contain a threaded version anymore because i am too lazy to maintain two versions and i figured no one has a threaded perl version on osx anyway...

To adjust if virusscan boundes or discards poisoned mails, edit virusscan-fork.pl with BBedit or Pico and modify LINE 16 to:

$bounces=0
(to DELETE)

$bounces=1
(to BOUNCE)

Since i updated the EXT Filter support, i am NOT SURE if this will run on CGP before 4.X Versions. I could only test it on a 4.0.6 Version.

How to install:
Download the Archive from: here

Open a Terminal Window (using Terminal.app).

Assuming you downloaded this archive to your DESKTOP, Type:
    cd ~/Desktop/
    tar -xzf cgvirusscan.tar.gz
    cd cgvirusscan

    READ the README File!!!!
    (more " README")
